Communication & Advocacy Office Internship

Our human rights NGO is committed to standing in solidarity with all those subjected to injustice and human rights violations, regardless of race, religion, social background, or political views. We work to expose and document human rights abuses, raise awareness, strengthen public engagement, and advocate for accountability at both the EU and international levels.

Location: Brussels, Belgium
Working arrangement: Full-time and onsite
Duration: Minimum 6 months
Starting period: From October 2026
Funding: Unpaid internship – Erasmus+ traineeship funding is mandatory

Main Responsibilities

The intern will:

  • Support the organisation’s communication and advocacy activities at the EU and international levels.
  • Create and edit content for the organisation’s website, newsletters, social media platforms, advocacy campaigns, and public communications.
  • Design visual materials such as social media posts, event announcements, infographics, presentations, and campaign materials.
  • Produce and edit short-form videos, reels, interviews, event highlights, and other digital content.
  • Use social media management and content creation tools to plan, prepare, schedule, and publish content.
  • Assist in developing communication strategies and awareness-raising initiatives related to human rights and fundamental freedoms.
  • Monitor relevant media coverage, public debates, and policy developments concerning human rights issues.
  • Conduct background research and contribute to advocacy materials, briefing notes, statements, and campaign content.
  • Support the preparation and dissemination of reports, publications, and visual communication materials.
  • Assist in organising conferences, workshops, panel discussions, advocacy meetings, and public events.
  • Prepare communication materials before, during, and after events, including announcements, speaker content, social media posts, videos, and event summaries.
  • Support outreach to civil society organisations, policymakers, journalists, academics, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and relevant external events.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme.
  • Be eligible for Erasmus+ traineeship funding through their university.
  • Be available for a minimum internship period of six months.
  • Be available for a full-time, onsite internship in Brussels.
  • Have excellent written and spoken English.
  • Have strong writing, communication, organisational, and digital content creation skills.
  • Have practical experience using social media and content creation tools.
  • Be able to use tools such as Canva or similar design platforms for creating social media graphics, posters, presentations, and other visual materials.
  • Have basic to intermediate video editing skills and be able to produce short videos, reels, interviews, and event-related content.
  • Be familiar with social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube.
  • Be able to create, edit, format, and adapt visual and written content for different digital platforms and audiences.
  • Have a strong interest in human rights, advocacy, strategic communication, public affairs, and civil society work.
  • Be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international and diverse team.

Please note: Applications from candidates who are not eligible for Erasmus+ traineeship funding cannot be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar tools.
  • Experience with social media scheduling, analytics, and content management tools.
  • Experience producing reels, short-form videos, interviews, podcasts, or event footage.
  • Basic photography, videography, graphic design, or visual storytelling skills.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems.
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and international human rights mechanisms.
  • Previous experience in an NGO, civil society organisation, media environment, or international organisation.
