Marine conservation internship in Montenegro - No financial compensation

Program description

The aim of this marine conservation internship is to support the local team in Montenegro in researching marine species, particularly cetaceans such as bottlenose dolphins and striped dolphins. These species are considered endangered due to human activity.

You will also take part in awareness-raising initiatives about cetacean protection and the importance of ocean conservation.

Your missions as an intern

• Land-based observations at sunrise and sunset
• Boat trips to carry out various research activities
• Data collection on dolphin sightings and behaviour, as well as on human and environmental impacts
• Learning and applying research techniques (spatio-temporal distribution of dolphins, use of theodolites, collection of behavioural data, photo-identification, and measurement of human influences)
• Training in standard marine research software (Pythagoras, Logger 2010)
• Data entry, editing, and analysis using GIS, Mark, Distance
• Cataloguing and comparing dolphin images using photo-identification software
• Raising awareness about environmental issues
• Using social media for public communication and to raise awareness about marine and environmental conservation
• Beach clean-ups
